Vision Statement: Each Ranger of the Wood County Park District is dedicated to providing the highest quality service to all members of the community, incorporating fairness and courtesy while preserving the dignity of each citizen in our endeavors.
What is a Park Ranger?Wood County Park District rangers are Ohio Peace Officer certified law enforcement officers who exercise full police powers in the commission of their duties. Park rangers have the same certification and training as other police officers you see throughout Wood County, they just have a different title. Rangers patrol seven days a week and log over 9,000 patrol hours per year, using marked patrol vehicles, ATVs, bicycles and on foot. In addition to law enforcement duties, rangers handle meeting the over 400 rentals at the Park District’s ten rental facilities each year, run the hunting by permit program, serve on the burn crew, deliver newsletters to dozens of locations in the county, collect camping fees, schedule leagues at the soccer fields, conduct various programs, help out the other Park District departments in any way needed, and many other non-law enforcement jobs.
Programming and EducationWood County Park Rangers conduct a variety of programs during the course of the year. Some of these programs are: Bike Safety, Fishing, Firearms Safety, First Aid and CPR, and Hunter Education. Rangers coordinate the geocaching program and also offer student ride-alongs and career presentations.
