W.W. Knight Nature Preserve

Donated by the family of the late William Windus Knight, this 44-acre preserve offers hiking trails and boardwalks through various natural areas including wetland, remnant swamp woods and native prairie. The pond offers family fishing opportunities.
Opened in 2005, the Nature Center at the preserve offers various educational opportunities including a Lookout on Nature Area (LOONA), perfect for bird watching. While at the preserve, visit the Nature Playscape, the pollinator and sensory gardens. Mondays during summer there is Paddle the Pond, a free program that teaches paddle sport safety. All equipment, life jackets and instructions are provided.
The Nature Center facility also includes the Hankison Great Room event space.

What to know when renting:
Reservations must be made by the 20th of the month prior. Please reserve early. In order to maintain our facilities and staff schedules, we do not accept same month rentals, or time changes. Rentals for the upcoming month (and rental time changes) close on the 20th of the month prior (for example, rentals for May close on April 20). This is so we can schedule our staff accordingly.
Reservations can be made up to one year in advance. Reservations are accepted one year-to-the-day in advance. Payment is required with a reservation. Damage deposits are refunded in the form of a check from Wood County about three weeks post event. Wood County Park District prides itself on maintaining clean parks and facilities. We do not provide keys, therefore you will need to establish arrival and departure times for your rental.
Choose your arrival and departure times carefully. A Park Police Officer will meet you to open the facility and return to secure the facility at the times designated. Please allow for your setup of tables and chairs, deliveries, decorating, as well as clean up and take-down of your event. The Park District does not provide caterers, linens, table service, set up, or cleaning equipment.
Please note: When renting one of our facilities, other events or meetings may also be occurring in the building and/or on the grounds during the same time period. There are portions of the buildings that will remain open to the public.

Dimensions? The Hankison Great room is 33′ x 48′, has a pass-through window to a serving kitchen with refrigerator, microwave and sink. In the event space, there is one gas fireplace, ceiling fans, heat, and air conditioning, 20 aluminum rectangular tables 6′ x 3′, and 120 chairs (19.5 x 19.25 x 32.25).
Decorations? No staples, tape, open candles, or helium balloons are allowed.
Electric? Only 120 is available. There is not a 220 outlet.
Dressings Rooms? There are not dressing rooms are available.
