Scarecrow Contest & Workshop


Join in on the fun fall tradition of building scarecrows and lighthearted competition! Build a scarecrow from scratch using our provided materials or bring your homemade scarecrow to Carter Historic Farm to enter it in our 21st Annual Scarecrow Contest to win cash prizes! 2022 Official Rules & Regulations

• All entries must fit in a 4×4 foot square space and be no more than 7 feet in height.
• All entries must be named. The name of the scarecrow’s builder will be displayed after judging. Do not
attach the name of the builder to the scarecrow. We will provide a stake with the scarecrow’s name.
• Scarecrows must be free standing or have a vertical support in the body so it can be wired to a post.
• All ornamentation must be firmly attached because all entries will be displayed outside.
• Rubber, plastic, or store-bought masks are not permitted.
• No sharp objects such as real pitchforks, knives or hooks, and flammable objects such as torches or
gas-powered generators are allowed and will be viewed as grounds for disqualification.
• Human or mechanical scarecrows are not permitted.
• Scarecrows must be created in good taste and shall not reflect any social, political,
religious, or controversial themes.
• Scarecrows should be made with a family-oriented theme in mind; no overly scary entries permitted.
• All ornamentation must be firmly attached because all entries will be displayed outside.
• The Wood County Park District has the right to refuse any contest entry and to promote any entry.
• Employees and family of the Wood County Park District are ineligible to win.
• Offences to Contest Rules will result in point deduction towards final score.


Deadline to enter: Monday, September 26, 2022. Registration online only – scan QR, or
Scarecrow Delivery & Set-up: Scarecrow Workshop, Thursday, September 29, 2022; 4:30 – 7:30 pm at Carter Historic Farm, 18331 Carter Road, Bowling Green, OH 43402. Contestants may build their scarecrows on site using personal or limited parks-supplied materials at the Scarecrow Workshop. Contestants may also build their scarecrows at home and bring them to set-up during the workshop.
Display: Entries will be on display September 30 – October 9 at Carter Historic Farm.
Announcements: Winners will be announced at the Heritage Farm Fest on Saturday, October 1 pm and through social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) by 12:00 pm noon, October 3.
Pick-up & Removal: Retrieve scarecrows starting Monday, October 10, 2022.
Pick-up DEADLINE Monday, October 17, 2022 by end of day, or they become property of the Wood County Park District. If you plan to donate scarecrow materials, please use Goodwill or Salvation Army.
